There are 11 categories open to entry in the 2017 Bank of Ireland Startup Awards.

The Grand Prix Winner - Startup of the Year will be chosen from the winners of the individual categories and the Startup Hero will be chosen by a separate panel of judges.

Digital / Online Startup

In this category we are looking for businesses that earn 60% or more of their revenue online. You could be an online retailer or a cloud computing startup or an online game. We want to see exciting businesses with the potential for big growth. This category is open to all sole traders, partnerships or bodies corporate, trading in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland that have been in business three years or less on 31st March 2016 and employ 30 staff or less.

Tech Startup of the Year

We want to celebrate the best of tech, if you’re disrupting the tech industry in some way – apply today. This category is open to all sole traders, partnerships or bodies corporate, trading in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland that have been in business three years or less on 31st March 2016 and employ 30 staff or less.

Product & Manufacturing Startup

Have you developed or are you selling an exciting new product?  Whether in the Digital sphere or in the real world we want to hear from you. This category is open to all sole traders, partnerships or bodies corporate, trading in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland that have been in business three years or less on 31st March 2016 and employ 30 staff or less.

 Service Startup

Are you a service related startup?  An accountant, a solicitor, web designer etc etc.  Tell us. This category is open to all sole traders, partnerships or bodies corporate, trading in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland that have been in business three years or less on 31st March 2016 and employ 30 staff or less.

Emerging Startup

In this category we are looking to recognise business and organisations that are in the very early stages of development. Entry is open to businesses that have been in existence for 18 months or less at the closing date for entries and have no more than 5 members of staff 31st March 2016. This category exists to allow very early stage businesses to show their potential. Entrants can be trading or pre trading and do not (necessarily) have to submit financial data as in other categories. Show us your vision and potential!

Home or Craft-based Startup

This includes home-based businesses or/and craft-based businesses. We want to recognise the most successful home-based companies. If your business is producing or selling craft whether it be basketry, textiles or millinery and knitwear then this category is also for you. This category is open to all sole traders, partnerships or bodies corporate, trading in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland that have been in business three years or less on 31st March 2016 and employ 30 staff or less.

Food & Drink Entrepreneurial Startup

Are you based in the food and drink industries?  Are you selling to the public or exporting? E.g. Artisan foods, pubs, restaurants, farmers, export or domestic. If your business is focused in any way on the food and drink sectors then we want to know about it here. This category is open to all sole traders, partnerships or bodies corporate, trading in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland that have been in business three years or less on 31st March 2016 and employ 30 staff or less.

Creative Retail Startup

Are you a retail startup and / or are you a retail franchise?  Are you doing great things?  Tell us here. This category is open to all sole traders, partnerships or bodies corporate, trading in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland that have been in business three years or less on 31st March 2016 and employ 30 staff or less.

Sustainable Startup

In this category we want to recognise and honour startup businesses that have developed their model and strategy in a sustainable fashion. Producers of 'green' products are of course welcome to enter but the key criteria is for a business in any sector that has set up or made changes to their business process that means that they operate in an environmentally friendly and sustainable fashion.

Fintech Startup

FinTech is a boom sector in 2017. Here we are looking for great examples of Fintech Startups in e.g. Banking solutions, cyber security, data solutions, Insurance, lending, money transfer, payments, risk management, treading systems, treasury management and asset management to name but a few. This category is open to all sole traders, partnerships or bodies corporate that have been in business three years or less on 27th March 2017 and employ 30 staff or less.

Health or Healthcare Startup

Healthcare startups are booming, disrupting established business models and catering to a growing population that demand new and better healthcare. Tell us your healthcare success story!
This category is open to all sole traders, partnerships or bodies corporate that have been in business three years or less on 27th March 2017 and employ 30 staff or less.

 Startup Hero

The Startup Hero Award recognises an Individual who provides inspiration and example to Startups on the island of Ireland. This award winner is chosen by a panel of experts and will be announced at the ceremony on November 12th.

This category cannot be entered into directly, the winner of The Grand Prix Award is chosen from the winners of the other categories.
